Knoxville pet store owner buys dogs from broker at Texas flea market

You may or may not remember my tirade about Puppy Zone from this past March.  Well, they’ve turned up in the news again and I’m able to say “I told you so.”

Don Dare, a reporter from WATE in Knoxville decided to investigate the claims that the dogs were not from puppy mills, rather from families (which doesn’t make sense on any level).

So click through, read, and start sending your hate mail to Puppy Zone (well, maybe petitioning for Texas to license breeders would be more proactive).

Puppy Zone attracts protesters

The commenters on this article are so stupid it makes me want to punch something.

You can fake registration papers. Not only that, if you want a purebred dog you should go to a reputable breeder or a breed specific rescue organization.

And what’s wrong with mutts? They’re less likely to have heath problems caused by inbreeding, which many puppymill puppies are more likely to have because mills are run by irresponsible people.

Furthermore, they don’t seem to understand what a puppymill is. Animals living in deplorable conditions covered in their own feces and urine, crammed into tiny cages and forced to breed over and over again so someone can make a couple bucks. People who breed dogs for the preservation of the breed don’t make money off of what they do because they spend money on taking their dogs to the vet for checkups and vaccinations. For that matter, why would a reputable breeder sell puppies to what’s essentially a puppy dealership where they’re undoubtedly going to sell them for more than they bought them in order to make a profit?

But God forbid someone spend $150 on a puppy at the animal shelter, where they’re vaccinated and fixed before being adopted out, when they could spend $1200 on a dog that’s undoubtedly going to cost them even more money in the long run?
